The depression-born Civilian Conservation Corps benefited jobless young men and the places they camped. From 1933 to 1942 the three-C m at Wawona built roads and trails, removed stumps, dead trees and debris from the forest, particularly along roads in the Mariposa Grove, and worked on control of blister rust.
There were three CCC camps at Wawona, two at the far end of the meadows and a large, well-ordered one above the Pioneer Center.
