At Burns’ ferry on the Stanislaus river, people from various places camped to collect river mussels (soponoyu, C). These were cooked by sticking them in the sand, so that they projected, covering them with dry brush, and firing it. River mussels were also obtained high up the north fork of the Tuolumne river. A river mussel or fresh-water clam called yō'lolī (P, N) was eaten by the Plains and Northern Miwok. These were slightly larger than the ones used in making shell spoons.
Apparently the only gastropod eaten was a land snail called lōpāti (C) which was taken to stop hemorrhage.
