Fish nets were made of milkweed fiber string. A mesh stick (tasena, C, the term for any stick) was used to work the net on, each row of meshes being made over it (plate LVIII, figs. 2-6). The string for the net was carried on a shuttle about a foot long and forked at both ends.
A fish net (70191, Field Museum) from Bald Rock, Tuolumne county, appeared to be made with a flat or reef knot of Asclepius speciosa bast. The mesh was eight centimeters square, the cord two millimeters in diameter. The net was three by six feet.
A netting bag, yemalu' (C), was made with milkweed fiber string and used to carry bulbs and corms. The mesh was small and the handle or carrying strap was of netting material. It was carried on the back by suspension from the head or shoulders.
