SHELL NOSE-SKEWERS

The cylindrical shell nose-skewer (plate LXIII, fig. 6) came from the south. Among the Central Miwok, according to one appraisal, a fine basket, eight to ten inches in diameter, would be given in exchange for five nose sticks. Another appraisal of their value was much lower, valuing a lua (more than an arm’s length) of shell nose-sticks at only two and one-half dollars.
