Not many people go in late October. Too early for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's cold, but little or no snow on the ground.
Campgrounds won't be sold out, although the higher-elevation camps are closed. There be plenty of spaces in the open campgrounds. The Upper Pines Campground is open year around. For details on camping, see http://yosemite.ca.us/faq/
If you're worried about being cold--bundle up. Bring polypro or polyester underwear, coats or jackets, gloves, and a warm hat or cap. Dress in layers.
